Since 2017 I have been dedicated to share my experiences and passion for natural pigments, textiles and sustainable fashion through giving workshops across Puerto Rico, with the aim of creating community and raising awareness of sustainable practices in art and design.
During my natural dye workshops participants are introduced to a variety of organic pigments, plant and animal based natural fibers, yarn and fabric types, as well as the essential work tools of a natural dyer. Trough creative group work the participants will learn about the most important steps of natural dyeing, from scouring to mordanting how to prepare the textile goods ready for the dye pot, how to extract the color from different dye plants among locally grown flowers, food waste and insects, how to prepare natural dye baths with them and how to create different shades of colors by using mineral and plant based mordants.
